6-22-2016 Hello! Welcome aboard my little corner of the worldwide Web! I'm Stephany Spencer-LeBaron/AKA Beulah Spencer-LeBaron, a creative and retired teacher on her endless summer. On my Website: https://StephanySpencer.com This blog is meant to be a dialogue, not a monologue. So I'm looking forward to your comments and will respond as time allows. I'm blogging my shoot-from-the-hip story: A surreal saga of surviving stunting child abuse and slavery growing up poor and deprived in a secluded, backward Mormon Fundamentalist cult headquartered in Colonia LeBaron, Chihuahua, Mexico. I escaped this dangerous, fanatic sect in 1967 at the age of 21, with only my toddler, one suitcase, and $5.00 to my name ... And an 8th Grade diploma received in 1960, though I'd had but six years of formal education from largely small-town Utah schools; including Short Creek's one-room schoolhouse housing grades 1 to 5. In 1967, Four months after escaping the stifling LeBaron clan, I miraculously matriculated into East Los Angeles College, earned an Associate of Arts Degree in Music. Then graduated from UCLA in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. Ultimately attaining a Teacher's Credential and Post-graduate work from California State University, Northridge in 1976. Since graduating from College, then teaching for the Los Angeles Unified School District till retirement age, I've been a member of the California Writers Club (https://cwc-sfg.org) where I was Program Chair, helped with Hospitality, and regularly contributed to their monthly newsletter. I was a member of Champagne Toastmasters (https://Champagne Toastmasters.com) And am a longtime participant in Songmakers (https:// Songmakers.org). Ever Creative, the world is my oyster, I a pearl forming within her. Life is my canvas where I paint with gusto While it takes me along for the ride. I've learned you either live or die. Bob Dylan reminds us in a song, "If you aren't busy livin', You're busy dyin'." So here's to life! I'm tryin,' Yes, I am. Though I ain't thru cryin,' Cheers and "L' Chaim!" ~Steph

Poetry by Stephany Spencer-LeBaron: HELEN’S HOME LIFE

TULIPS HELEN’S HOME LIFE Helen’s home life Makes mine and Marie’s Look complacent comparatively. Her home’s a hotbed for tulips Or “two lips” – in hell!Ours a heavenly hotbed Where tulips to dwell. Oh, well! Poor “Hel.”But one never can tellFrom the outsideIf a home’s a heaven or hell On the inside. It’s probably just as well.
