Poetry by Stephany Spencer-LeBaron:
IN MY TIME

IN MY TIME
by Stephany Spencer-LeBaron:
IN MY TIME
In my time
I won’t give in,
I won’t give up.
I’ll let today’s mirth
Fill up my cup.
In the darkest hours
Of our imperfect world
I’ll look to the dawn
As day’s unfurled.
Then hold up my hope
Hold up my head.
I won’t be troubled
By what is said.
Placing one foot
In front of the other
I’ll keep on trekking
With sister and brother.
I won’t feed “Bad Wolf,”
But “Good Wolf” instead,
Cause my health is my wealth
And I make my own bed.
When the lights go out
And the curtains come down,
In the bleakest hour
Things can turn around.
As the sun goes down
And the veil is drawn
I’ll soon be facing
A brand new dawn.
The soul never dies.
It follows the light
Like dawn follows
The darkest night.
Then a ray of sunshine
From behind a cliff
Suddenly bursts forth
In wondrous riff.
I’ll hold onto my hat,
Hold onto my hope.
Somewhere somehow
At the end of my rope,
Just when I thought
I could bear no more strife
Circumstances could change
To better my life.
So I’ll grab my hat
And get my cane.
I’m heading out
To beat the game.
Things may seem bleak,
Have no rhythm nor rhyme,
But I’ll even the score
In my time.
